LITTLE THUMBS, BIG THUMBS : Echidna Shuffle

Before we even removed the lid from the box of Echidna Shuffle, Big Bean was asking “Daddy, what is an Echidna?” Truth be told, I hadn’t put much thought into it before that very moment, so we fired up a YouTube search, and were positively blown away by these spiky little puffballs. What did we learn? Echidnas are slow – comically, adorably slow. Toothless. One of only two egg-laying mammals. Male Echidnas wield a four-headed willy. The list of oddities goes on! TIP TOP TEN : Hot Beverage Games

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been leaning a lot on comfort foods throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. LITTLE THUMBS, BIG THUMBS : Mole Rats in Space

Several months ago, we found a bargain for a giant edition of Snakes and Ladders (or maybe chutes and ladders, depending on where you grew up), and we excitedly brought it home to play with our two beans. Unfolding the giant plastic mat onto the floor, setting up with palm-sized pawns, and feeling the weight of the oversized die in our hands, all signs pointed to it being a wonderful family gaming experience. Moments later, the pawns had been thrown across the room, the plastic had been rolled into a bunchy ball, and the die was nowhere to be found. … Continue reading LITTLE THUMBS, BIG THUMBS : Mole Rats in Space

LITTLE THUMBS, BIG THUMBS : Mighty Mice

“I AM AN ELEPHANT FASHION DESIGNER!!” Big Bean made this bold declaration within minutes of opening the box for Mighty Mice from Advance Games. My exhausted adult eyes didn’t grasp what she was seeing, but I was definitely more focused as she carefully stacked the grey mouse cubes onto the colourful wooden elephants. For the remainder of our Mighty Mice review, head on over to the Daily Worker Placement, where it was originally published: LITTLE THUMBS, BIG THUMBS: Mighty Mice Continue reading LITTLE THUMBS, BIG THUMBS : Mighty Mice

DIGGING INTO DEXTERITY : Tinderblox / Kittens

“Daddy, I made a cat sculpture!” The components of Kittin (an upcoming title from Alley Cat Games) had just been dumped on the table, and I was reading the first paragraph of the rules. Before I had digested any information, my 4 year old had figured out the core concept of the game – stack the kitten meeples into fun arrangements! Rather than continue reading, we flipped over the first card of the included deck, and upon seeing the goal, my Big Bean constructed it within a few seconds. We repeated this act a few more times, and suddenly our … Continue reading DIGGING INTO DEXTERITY : Tinderblox / Kittens
